A 15-year-old boy from the 'Shuvu Banim' branch of the Breslov hasidic sect drowned Monday morning while hiking in the Ein Prat Nature Reserve in the northern Judean Desert.
Medical teams from Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah were called to the scene and resuscitated the boy after he fell into the Prat River. He was transported via helicopter to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem in critical condition,
At the hospital, the boy was declared dead.
MDA paramedic Elon Lubiner said: "We reached the stream, went into the water and searched for the boy for a few minutes. Once we located him, we removed him from the water when he was unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing after spending long minutes underwater."
"We immediately started performing prolonged resuscitation operations on him, which included massages, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and the provision of electric shocks, and he was evacuated by military helicopter to the hospital while we were continuing to perform resuscitation operations while his condition was critical," he added.
