Prime Minister Ariel Sharon apparently supports Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer's bid to uproot still more outposts in Judea and Samaria (Yesha). Sharon told Yesha settlement leaders this week that he is governed only by the law in this matter. This stands in contrast to his remarks a number of months ago to a delegation of Yesha women, whom he told that he "welcomes the development of the outposts."
Ben-Eliezer has prepared a list of outposts he plans to dismantle, and submitted it to Yesha Council leaders last night. The latter say that Ben-Eliezer is reneging on the agreement he made with them two months ago, and warn that they will not voluntarily leave any outposts as they did in the past. The two sides agreed to meet again on the topic. The Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee will hold a special meeting tomorrow on the matter of the Yesha outposts.
