Fatah-Tanzim terrorist leader Marwan Barghouti is still receiving his monthly salary as a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), despite his imprisonment on charges of organizing terrorism against Israelis. Tel Aviv attorney Nitsana Darshan-Leitner has written to the European Union, demanding that it stop funding the Palestinian Authority. "The budget for the salaries of PLC members comes completely from EU funding," Darshan-Leitner says.
She bases her stance on claims made by the EU itself. In response to charges by Israel that EU monies help support Palestinian terrorism, the EU responded that its funding is used solely for civilian purposes such as paying PA employees. One of these "employees" is still Marwan Barghouti, to the tune of $2,500 a month, even though he has been indicted in Israel for the murder of 26 Israelis and the wounding of hundreds of others.
Arutz-7 archives show that in March 1997, Barghouti addressed the PA Legislative Council and expressed condolences to the family of the suicide terrorist who murdered three women at the Apropos Cafe in Tel Aviv. He was interrupted by thunderous applause in the midst of his words. In response, MK Ran Cohen (Meretz) called upon his colleagues in the left to cut off all contacts with Barghouti.
