IDF troops backed by some two dozen tanks moved into a PLO-controlled area of Gaza last night, and army demolition crews leveled the home of a top Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine terrorist. The offensive was taken largely in response to the pre-Rosh HaShanah attack against an IDF tank in which Sgt. Aviad Dotan was killed.



An Israeli tank crew killed two Arabs attempting to crawl from Gaza into Israel-proper late last night. It was later reported that the two planned to cut through the fence surrounding Gaza and place a large explosive somewhere in pre-1967 Israel. The forces fired a shell, causing the bomb to explode and kill them on the spot.



Despite the IDF presence in Gaza, Arabs continued to launch mortar shells at Jewish communities in Gush Katif. Two shells landed harmlessly last night and this morning, concluding a series of six since Rosh HaShanah began on Friday night... In other holiday violence, Arabs threw grenades and shot at IDF troops at the Tarmit outpost in southern Gaza... A soldier was hospitalized with light wounds in a stone-throwing attack in Hevron… A bomb was detonated near an IDF jeep in the Shomron last night, and Arabs fired at soldiers in Shechem; no one was hurt...
