A 35-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a fire broke out in an apartment on Shaul Hamelech Street in the northern town of Beit She'an.

The victim was transferred by Magen David Adom (MDA) helicopter to Haifa's Rambam Health Care Campus, unconscious and on a respirator.

Five other people were lightly injured in the fire, and transferred by ambulance to Ha'emek Medical Center in Afula.

MDA paramedic Sapir Bokhobza said: "We arrived at the scene with several large MDA teams, and we joined the firefighting teams, who were working to extinguish the flames and evacuate the victims from the building."

"At first they brought out five people who were lightly injured - three adults and two children who had suffered smoke inhalation and who were transferred in MDA ambulances to Ha'emek Hospital. Afterwards, firefighters' searches revealed an additional victim, who was brought out to us unconscious.

"As we reported to the MDA hotline and called one of our helicopters, I provided him with lifesaving first aid, including special medications and respiration. We arrived at the helicopter which had landed nearby and the victim was transferred in stable condition to Rambam Hospital."
