The Jewish Agency reports that some 34,000 new immigrants (olim chadashim) arrived in Israel during the Jewish year of 5762. Of these, 4,100 are from Argentina, 3,000 are from Ethiopia, 1,700 are from France, and 1,500 are from the United States. In addition, from the former Soviet Union came over 21,000, many of whom are eligible for automatic citizenship because they are first- or second-degree relatives of a Jewish immigrant.

In addition to the immigrants, some 20,000 teens and young adults participated in educational programs in Israel during 5762. Foremost among these programs are the Na'aleh high school program (run jointly with the Ministry of Education), the Israel Experience, Birthright, and a number of other programs of several months' duration.
