Two soldiers were killed this morning, and several were wounded, in two separate attacks in the Gaza Strip. Around 8 AM today, Lt. Malik Grifat, 24, from the Druze town of Zarzir, was killed when Arab snipers opened fire on his jeep in northern Gaza, between the communities of Dugit and Nisanit. The terrorists opened fire from within an Arab school filled with children. A second soldier sitting in the jeep was wounded. Other soldiers nearby engaged the sniper in an exchange of fire, finally killing him. A half hour later, one soldier was killed and three others wounded when their tank ran over a large explosive device planted under the road near the Kisufim Crossing into Gush Katif. The wounded were flown by helicopter to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva.

Mortar attacks in Gaza continue as well. The home that was hit yesterday morning by a mortar shell was hit again this morning - and again no one was hurt. Yesterday's bomb hit the kitchen, while the latest shell landed in the yard, about a meter outside the kitchen, and damaged the family car and the neighbor's house. Asher Mivtzari, spokesman for his hometown of Kfar Darom and owner of the twice-hit home, said, "People don't realize how dangerous and deadly these shells are; the shrapnel [yesterday] flew all over with terrific force... The government must wake up and give the orders to fight the enemy all-out. We cannot continue to rely only on miracles..." Since the implementation of the “Gaza and Bethlehem First” plan almost two weeks ago, Kfar Darom has been hit with over 30 rockets and mortar shells. "We survive here on miracles," one resident said.
