In his annual series of pre-Rosh Hashanah interviews, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told Israel television last night that Libya poses a significant threat to world peace since Tripoli is actively pursuing weapons of mass destruction. Sharon said that Libya might even become the first Arab nation to obtain a nuclear weapon. In regard to Iraq, Sharon said that Israel is well prepared to defend herself against a Saddam Hussein-launched attack.

The Prime Minister also stated that for the first time he sees a window of opportunity for a political breakthrough with the Palestinians. Sharon said that he would be willing to negotiate a deal with those Arabs who have reached the conclusion that they can’t achieve anything using terrorism.
