In reaction to this morning's ruling, Gush Katif Regional Council spokesman Eran Sternberg told Arutz Sheva today that Gaza has become the "garbage dumping ground for terrorists." He noted that the last time the government sent terrorists to Gaza - when 26 arrived after an agreement was reached ending the standoff at Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity in May - there was a sharp increase in terror. "What the government is saying is that our life is cheaper than other residents of Israel," said Sternberg. He added that "deporting terrorists to Gaza not only poses a threat to the residents of Gush Katif but to those who live in nearby communities within pre-1967 Israel."
However, others praised this morning's ruling. Knesset Member Zev Boim (Likud Party) said that today's Supreme Court decision sets a strong precedent. "The Court has upheld a policy that fights terrorism at its roots, and gives the government effective tools to prevent potential suicide attacks." Moledet party leader Rabbi Benny Elon added that this morning's decision shows that the public is beginning to accept the concept of "transfer for peace". The Elon Peace Initiative calls for the relocation of Yesha Arabs to Arab countries.
