MK Michael Kleiner (Herut) has petitioned the Supreme Court for permission to visit the holiest Jewish site in the world, the Temple Mount. Kleiner wishes to ascend to the spot this Thursday, the second Hebrew anniversary of then-MK Ariel Sharon's famous visit to the Mount.

Kleiner's case is based on the right to freedom of travel granted to Knesset Members anywhere in Israel. Kleiner claims that the blanket police ban on Jewish entry to the Mount is "unreasonable." He further says that banning him from the site - as was done on his last attempt 25 days ago - is discriminatory against him, in that other MKs were allowed there in the past.

On the other hand, Shulamit Aloni, a prominent extreme left-wing personality and former Education Minister when she was in the Meretz party, didn't ask for permission when she violated military orders and visited Yasser Arafat in Ramallah a few months ago. A police file has been opened against her, and she was questioned this afternoon by Judea and Samaria Police District investigators. Aloni says the investigation is politically motivated.
