A young husband and wife were seriously wounded last night, and two other people were lightly wounded, by a terrorist who infiltrated into the community of Har Brachah. Bystanders and the civilian patrol, including Arutz-7's Idan M., responded quickly and impressively, and the terrorist was killed within a short time with no further casualties. The IDF Spokesperson announced that the "quick response of the residents of the community and the Readiness Squad, and the fast arrival of IDF soldiers to the scene, prevented even more tragic results and assisted in bringing an end to the incident more quickly."
The incident began shortly after 8 PM last night when the 20-year-old Palestinian terrorist from Shechem cut through the town's security fence and made his way towards the local hesder yeshiva. He opened fire with an AK-47 assault rifle at people walking nearby, wounding Jerusalem residents Dalit and Yaakov Rand, both 23, who were in town to celebrate a family marriage. Both were originally listed in serious condition, but Yaakov Tzvi ben Rivka's condition has now improved to "light to moderate," while his wife Dalit (Ruth Dalit bat Aviva), in the first trimester of pregnancy, is now listed as "moderate to serious." Among the first to arrive on the scene to treat the wounded was new Hatzolah rescue-team member Boaz Shabo, who lost his wife and three children in a terrorist attack five weeks ago.
Seconds after the shooting began, IDF soldier and Psagot resident Avi O. ran to the scene to confront the terrorist. "As soon as I heard the shots, I ran out," he later recounted. "I was a bit nervous at first, but I kept firing in order to neutralize him so that he couldn't keep shooting at the couple..." Avi, also a Shabbat guest in Brachah, said, "I opened the incident [in being the first to shoot at the terrorist], and the town's emergency response unit closed it."
A member of that unit, 26-year-old Idan, the producer of Arutz-7's Television News, then arrived on the scene together with another town resident. "We arrived after the wounded had been evacuated," he told Arutz-7's Yosef Zalmanson. "The terrorist had run away, and we started combing the area for him. We finally saw him near the gate of the town, and we shot many bullets at him until he fell. He was certainly dead when an army jeep arrived on the scene, but the officer made sure with a final shot... We continued combing the area, for fear that another terrorist was also on the scene."

On the terrorist's body were found the Kalachnikov rifle he used, extra bullet cartridges, and a hunting knife. The Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
