Former Soviet Prisoners of Zion Yosef Mendlevitch and Ida Nudel are coming to the aid of an Arab facing a likely death sentence in the Palestinian Authority. The Arab was recently arrested by PA police on suspicion that he had helped Israel kill arch-terrorist Salah Shehadeh and at least one other terrorist.
Mendlevitch and Nudel met today with a representative of the Vatican, to whom they gave a letter addressed to the Pope asking for his intervention in this case. Atty. Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, who has asked the PA for permission to represent the accused in a PA court - on grounds that Arab lawyers are afraid to do so - also participated in the meeting.
