Ninety-Five members of the Bnei Menashe (children of Menashe) are scheduled to arrive in Israel today as new immigrants. Members of the group, who have been living in northeastern India for hundreds of years, consider themselves to be the descendents of the Biblical tribe of Menashe. The group has been practicing Jewish customs including circumcision on the 8th day, and the observance of the Sabbath for generations. Once in Israel they will undergo formal conversions by the Chief Rabbinate and live observant Jewish lifestyles. They will be joining the more than 600 Bnei Menashe members already living in Israel.
