A bomb exploded harmlessly near IDF troops at the Tel Katifah outpost in Gush Katif last night. Arabs have launched numerous attacks on that position over the past 24 hours. Just prior to last night’s explosion, exchanges of gunfire took place between troops and Arab gunmen near the community of Gadid. Arabs also targeted soldiers with a barrage of gunfire and grenades at the Tarmit outpost in the Rafiach area.
Despite the tense situation on the ground, Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer will be meeting with the PA’s Abdel Razek Yichye later on today. The meeting, which was originally scheduled for yesterday was postponed following the damaging mortar attack on a Gush Katif home on Tuesday night. The leaders are to discuss the implementation of the “Gaza and Bethlehem First” plan. Signs indicating that the arrangement is a go were evident yesterday, as PA security forces assumed control over three checkpoints in Gaza.
