The commander of the Judea/Samaria Division, Brig.-Gen. Gershon Yitzchak, awarded citations to soldiers and units that excelled in their battle performance over the past months. IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Moshe Yaalon has strong words for elements "on our side" that "are more comfortable blaming the Israeli side, or the army, or the Chief of Staff." In an interview appearing in tomorrow's edition of Haaretz, Yaalon said, "You try to stand and stop [the deteriorating security situation], and you get shot at from all directions. People from your own side come and literally undermine you. It's very frustrating, and sometimes drives me nuts…" He attributed a central role to the Israeli media in "promoting [that] mindset..."



U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State David Satterfield, who arrived in Israel today for a 4-day visit, met with the PA's Saeb Erekat in Jericho for two hours. Though Satterfield has no plans to meet with Yasser Arafat, the latter will not be out of the picture: Erekat drove to Ramallah immediately after the meeting to brief Arafat on what had transpired.
