Yet another multi-casualty car accident occurred in the north early this morning, claiming five young lives. The youths' car, driven by a new driver northwards from Haifa on the old Tel Aviv-Haifa highway, veered out of its lane near Kibbutz HaHotrim and crashed into an oncoming truck. Firefighting teams called to the scene worked very hard to extricate the five bodies from the mangled car. They said that they had not seen such a horrible crash in years. The five victims, aged 17-19, were from Tirat HaCarmel, and were returning from a nighttime beach party.

Northern Police Chief Yaakov Borochovski, who arrived at the scene, said, "We have had over 15 deaths from car accidents in the last few days. This is an unreasonable number, illogical, and unnecessary, caused by a combination of faulty infrastructures, the human factor, and insufficient police presence."
