A Jewish Agency delegation has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa to take part in the World Summit on Sustainable Development, which began this morning. The delegation also includes hundreds of students from Israel and around the world, of the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS), whose role it will be to defend the Jewish State against possible anti-Israel and anti-Semitic manifestations. Their presence is due to lessons learned at last year’s Durban Conference on Racism, which served as a stage for pro-Arab and other groups to lambaste Israel and the Jewish people. Both the US and Israeli delegations dropped out midway through the event in the face of the onslaught.

Some 65,000 people from around the world are expected to attend the Johannesburg summit, which will last until September 4. Israeli political leaders, including Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, will make appearances at the gathering.
