Can the Ohr Commission be stopped? Deputy Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra proposed today that the government order the freezing of the Commission and the burying of its findings. The commission is investigating the Arab riots of 2000 and the police response that led to the deaths of 13 Arabs. Ezra says that the commission, established by ex-Prime Minister Ehud Barak at the end of his term in order to mollify the Arab sector, was "born in sin, and its conclusions will cause only damage."

MK Michael Kleiner of Herut, however, says that there is currently no legal way to stop it, and that the committee "is like a rocket that has been launched, with no further control over it." He has therefore introduced special legislation to put a halt to the committee's work. Kleiner has confidence that his bill will pass: "Even MKs of Labor are beginning to see the damage the commission is causing," he said today.
