Fox News has projected that Democrats will retain and even expand their majority in the lower chamber of Congress, with a likely net gain of about five seats.

One seat has flipped thus far, with Kathy Manning projected to defeat Lee Haywood, giving Democrats North Carolina's sixth congressional district.

Democrats won 235 seats in the 435-member House in 2018, beyond the 218 needed for a majority.

The Senate, which Republicans currently control, remains too close to call, with tight races in North Carolina, Michigan, Georgia, and Maine.

Republicans have secured victories in eight states thus far, giving them a total of 38 seats in the upper chamber. Democrats have won seven seats, giving them a total of 42 seats. No seats have flipped thus far.
