Actor and director Yehuda Barkan died on Shabbat at age 75 at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

Barkan was hospitalized in the intensive care unit in late September after contracting coronavirus. His family asked not to publish the news of his death until Saturday night so as not to lead to Shabbat desecration.

Yehuda Barkan is one of the greatest actors in Israel, with cinematic hits such as "Charlie and a Half", "Snooker Celebration" and "Stolen Dad" to his credit.

He is also known for his famous thriller films, in the style of "Hidden Camera", from the 70s and 80s. In the early 2000s he embraced religious observance and since then had rarely performed on the stage.
