Hundreds of residents of the town of Efrat – a Gush Etzion community just south of Jerusalem – held a demonstration inside the town’s municipal building this morning, demanding that Arab workers be barred from entering the community. The Efrat council had recently voted to allow Arab workers back into Efrat, but only in certain areas and under constant supervision. However, according to Efrat resident and organizer of this morning’s protest Mr Josh Adler, Arab laborers have been roaming the streets of Efrat freely.
Adler told Arutz Sheva today that his group is demanding that Arabs not be let into the community under any condition. However, he said, “even if the municipality would stick to their decision [and allow Arabs in under strict conditions], at least then we would have somewhat of a sense of security. But now we are afraid. Our children are starting school in a few days and they will be walking around in the streets and Arabs are walking around freely, unsupervised.”
Efrat’s leadership had originally decided to ban Arab workers following several attempted attacks within the community earlier in the year.
