(Updated Sunday 9:30 AM) While IDF troops pulled out of Gaza and Bethlehem last week, its does not appear that a proposed pullback from Hevron will take place in the near future. Following a meeting between Israeli and Palestinian Authority officials at the end of last week, the IDF released a statement saying that Israel has no intention of making any further security changes until the PA begins to combat terror.
Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer accepted the IDF’s recommendations saying that troops would not pull out of Hevron at least until the end of the Jewish high holidays in six weeks from now. He added that status quo would continue since there are ongoing intelligence warnings of attacks being planned by terror cells within the city.
