Objections are mounting to the proposed IDF withdrawal from Hevron, especially in light of last night's Arab shooting attack against Jewish homes in the city. Palestinian terrorists fired from the Haret a-Sheikh hills at the Admot Yeshai (Tel Rumeida) neighborhood; no one was hurt. Israel Radio's influential military correspondent Carmela Menashe reported today that even military sources now oppose removing IDF forces from PA neighborhoods of the city, noting the large number of terrorists captured there recently and the daily "hot warnings" of Hevron attacks.

The Hevron Jewish Community warned Prime Minister Sharon yesterday that in light of bitter past experience, withdrawing the forces once again and handing the city over to PA security control would be considered the "conscious abandonment of Jewish life.”

The Jerusalem Times, an independent PA weekly, reports that the IDF has essentially withdrawn from Ramallah, including from around Arafat's headquarters. The paper reports that the army also cleared out of a seven-story building overlooking the headquarters, and retains control only over a three-floor building in nearby Al-Amari.
