MK Benny Elon (National Union-Yisrael Beiteinu) calls on Prime Minister-elect Ariel Sharon to take action against the continuing murder of Jews and other Palestinian violence, such as the shooting on Gilo. \"Sharon, even before he was elected, intervened in the municipal workers strike,\" Elon said, \"so how much more so should he intervene in the present crisis.\" Sharon did not issue any announcement following the murder last night, and Elon warned Sharon that his silence would be interpreted as weakness.
Shlomo Filber of the Yesha Council echoed the call, saying today, \"Just as Sharon has already started a world-wide information campaign, and has sent delegations to various world capitals, he must act with as much ardor, even during this transition period, to stop the terrorism. We see that Arafat is not waiting. In the past two days, he has already managed to explode a few bombs, fire a mortar shell, send the residents to the shelters, shoot onto Rachel\'s Tomb and Psagot, and more. Arafat is not waiting, and neither must Ariel Sharon - and the first thing he must do is not appoint Ehud Barak to be Defense Minister, as Barak is the one who is responsible for the security deterioration of the past half-year.\"
In other Yesha Council news: The Council rejected an invitation by the United Nations Civil Rights delegation to meet with it. Earlier, Prime Minister Barak had refused to cooperate with the delegation because, a government statement accused, it had formed its conclusions before arriving in the region. The Yesha Council announced, therefore, that its refusal to meet with the delegation was simply an implementation of the Barak government\'s decision.
