A foreign resident who married in Israel and afterwards divorced will no longer retain his status of citizen or resident. So ruled the Supreme Court yesterday, adopting the position of the Interior Ministry. Chief Justice Aharon Barak, in rejecting the petition of a foreigner who married an Israeli and then divorced her, said that only if the couple had children or similar situations could the man demand citizenship. Many Arabs from the PA autonomous areas had availed themselves of this now-filled loophole to obtain Israeli citizenship.
