The Galilee town of Rosh Pina, east of Tzfat (Safed), is celebrating the 120th anniversary of its founding this year, but it has now been learned that Jewish settlement there is thousands of years old. Archaeological excavations there have found a stone wall, remnants of a floor, and pottery from the Biblical days of Israelite settlement in the Holy Land. Archaeologist Yossi Stepansky says that the village - which was destroyed by fire, as is still evident - was of the tribe of Naftali. He says that the Arab village Ja'uni, which was located there in the 19th century, carries the name of one of the sons of Naftali, Guni (Gen. 46, 24).
