The strike at the Jerusalem Post took a violent turn today, and one of the workers was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The workers are protesting the management's plans to fire 40 printing workers and move half its printing operations to Ramallah.

After workers locked out the management on Thursday, today it was the management's turn: It hired guards to prevent the print workers from coming to work today. According to the head of the Histadrut Labor Union's Jerusalem branch, Danny Ben-Sheetrit, "the guards attacked the workers, and broke the ribs of one of the union members, who had to be taken away by ambulance. This is a fine situation: Instead of talking, the management hires goons to beat up the workers. We will not let this pass quietly." Ben-Sheetrit said that after the management told all 40 workers that they were fired, they tried to sign some of them on personal contracts, "but this will not happen. We have ordered the workers not to show up for work at all." Calls to Jerusalem Post offices for comment today went unanswered.
