The most important opposition leader in Iraq, Masoud Barzani of the Kurds of northern Iraq, has rejected an invitation to take part in a meeting of Iraqi opposition leaders in the White House. The New York Times says that Barzani's rebuff is a puzzle to the Bush Administration. US National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice said today that Saddam Hussein is closer to developing an atomic bomb than most Western countries realize.
