The security mini-cabinet convened this morning to discuss Israeli preparations to a possible U.S. attack on Iraq. American intelligence agencies spotted activity at an Iraqi biological weapons factory last week, according to today’s Washington Times. A convoy of about 60 trucks was photographed at the site by a spy satellite near the city of Taji, northwest of Baghdad. The Times reports that some intelligence officials have warned President Bush that Saddam Hussein is prepared to use weapons of mass destruction - including biological, chemical and perhaps even nuclear - against US forces should they mount an attack on Iraq. United Nations weapons inspectors have been denied access to suspected Iraqi missile sites since 1998. In January 1991, Hussein used the attack by the U.S. and its allies on Baghdad as an excuse to launch 39 Scud missiles at Israeli population centers.

Former senior intelligence officer Brig.-Gen. (res.) Aharon Levran feels that U.S. is lacking a sufficiently good reason to attack Iraq, and in any event is not guaranteed of success in such an attack. Speaking with Arutz-7's Yedidya Atlas, Levran said that Iran is most definitely the world leader in support for terrorism, but that if the U.S. feels that Iran is too heavy as an objective, Hizbullah should be targeted instead.
