U.S. President George Bush put the freeze on $200 million in anti-terrorism assistance for Israel yesterday. The money is part of $5.1 billion of Congressional-approved supplemental spending that Bush feels is too much, but he promised to work to provide the money to Israel - and $50 million to the PA - in specific budget amendments. Israel will probably not receive the money until early next year.

American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) officials said they were disappointed that the financial package was delayed. “AIPAC believes that both branches of government [executive and legislative] should move expeditiously to find a way to provide this needed $200 million for Israel's anti-terror efforts,” read an AIPAC statement.
