Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was released from the hospital Wednesday after being admitted the previous day and is now doing well, a Supreme Court spokeswoman said, according to The Hill.
“Justice Ginsburg has been discharged from the hospital," court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg was quoted as having said in a brief statement. "She is home and doing well.”
Ginsburg, 87, was hospitalized Tuesday for treatment of a possible infection after experiencing fever and chills. She also underwent a procedure "to clean out a bile duct stent that was placed last August," Arberg added.
Ginsburg has faced a number of health issues since being appointed to the Supreme Court by former President Bill Clinton in 1993, including surviving four bouts with cancer.
Ginsburg spent a night in the hospital in May with an infection caused by a gallstone. While in the hospital, she participated in arguments the court heard by telephone because of the coronavirus pandemic.
In November of last year, Ginsburg returned to the bench after missing courtroom arguments due to illness.
In January of that year, she missed arguments for the first time in her 25-year tenure on the US Supreme Court in the aftermath of surgery to remove cancer from her lungs.
In 2018, Ginsburg cracked three ribs in a fall at the court. The Jewish judge was discharged from the hospital the next day and was back at her notoriously vigorous workouts within a week.
