The Blue and White party announced it will not allow MK Yifat Shasha-Biton to be removed as head of the Knesset Coronavirus Committee after the committee approved the opening of gyms and swimming pools Monday.
"Given the importance of the Knesset's role as a supervising body, it is inappropriate to oust Coronavirus Committee Chairwoman Yifat Shasha-Biton. If the Likud promotes a vote on the issue we will not take part in it,” the faction said.
Earlier, a senior Likud official said: "Unfortunately, Yifat Shasha-Biton succumbed to pressure from lobbyists who represent the gyms. That's why she didn't even agree for them to shut down for 24 hours. All the Health Ministry experts warned that the gyms are a real danger of being infected because the virus also passes via sweat and therefore the masks don't provide a response.
"In such a situation, it's impossible to let this pass and therefore she'll be suspended for a while," the senior official said.
