1,221 new coronavirus patients have been diagnosed over the last day, according to data published by the Health Ministry Monday afternoon.

There are currently 20,251 active coronavirus cases in Israel. 160 patients are in serious condition, 51 of whom are on ventilators.

364 Israelis have died from the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.

Earlier, the Knesset’s Coronavirus Committee voted to permit the reopening of gyms and public swimming pools, nullifying government restrictions and rejecting recommendations by the Prime Minister and Health Minister.

The committee, led by Chairwoman Yifat Shasha-Biton (Likud), voted to lift the ban on operating swimming pools and gyms, which had been put in place by the government last week.

Over the last month, 170 new coronavirus cases have been traced to weddings, compared to just 35 cases of infection which originated in gyms, 21 cases which originated from restaurants and 6 cases which originated in bars.

At the same time, the Education Ministry announced that 2,026 students and teaching staff have been diagnosed with the coronavirus. 28,147 students and teaching staff are in preventative isolation.
