The Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee will meet on Tuesday to discuss the way the Health Ministry has been managing the Shabak (Israel Security Agency) electronic tracking.

Committee Chairman MK Zvi Hauser (Derech Eretz) called the meeting early, following a large number of reports of problems with the quarantine notifications.

During Tuesday's meeting, Health Ministry and Shabak representatives will be required to answer questions put to them by members of the Committee regarding the number of mistakes, the number of people isolated due to Shabak tracking, and how the Health Ministry decides whether or not to cancel a given individual's requirement to isolate.

An internal Health Ministry document received by Israel Hayom showed that from July 1-8, a total of 3.495 coronavirus cases were diagnosed thanks to the Shabak tracking. Shabak also noted 70,000 people as having been around confirmed coronavirus cases and requiring a 14-day isolation period.

The document said that, "Many thousands of responses and disagreements" were received from Israelis who arrived at various Health Ministry stations around Israel, complaining that there had been a mistake and they were not in public areas on that date and therefore do not have to isolate.

The document also noted that Health Ministry attorney Talia Agmon admitted that "the offices struggled to provide appropriate responses to all of those turning to them, and the wait times were reported to be longer than expected, and some of the calls cut out. In light of this, we will reinforce the call centers. Additional staff have been recruited, including soldiers."

Each of the contacts received an identical notification from the Health Ministry, stating that, "According to epidemiological investigations, on [date] at [time], you were in contact with a coronavirus patient. You are obligated to immediately quarantine yourself for two weeks, and report the location of quarantine via the Health Ministry's website. If you have a fever or cough, please turn to your health fund. To verify, please call 086822334. To clarify or disagree, please visit the site, or call the hotline at *5400."
