Activity by the large "My Likud" settlement group with thousands of its members joining Likud forces on the sovereignty map is creating for Netanyahu "drama in the making" and is strengthening commitment to the subject of Eretz Yisrael in the party, according to senior political commentator Yaakov Bardugo.
Bardugo referred to the recent activation of the Likud Central Committee and its Chairman Chaim Katz by Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan - himself one of the Likud's most influential members, for the sovereignty struggle.
Bardugo said the threat was not yet a threat, but the Prime Minister has cause for concern: "You can see here an alliance emerging between Yossi Dagan, also a senior settlement figure, and Chaim Katz, Knesset Members, and key activists within the Likud to produce a counter-force that can help the settlers in Judea and Samaria.
"Upon this path, inroads are being made into the Likud. Netanyahu needs to pay attention to this path leading between Chaim Katz who plays a central role in the Likud and has a very big impact on both the Likud and Likud functionaries, and the settlers led by Yossi Dagan. These are the elements of the coalition. Gantz and Ashkenazi suddenly begin to understand that Netanyahu also has his commitments beyond personal commitment.
"Inside the Likud, voices are calling more and more to embrace Netanyahu or to create for Netanyahu a better operating cushion against the Left coalition. It isn't yet a political drama, but it is a drama in the making," Bardogo added.
Likud Central Committee Chairman Chaim Katz, who met with Yossi Dagan last week, told him that "The Likud Central Committee, led by me, unanimously agreed with thousands of people to apply sovereignty in all areas of Israel and if we need to fight - we'll fight."
Dagan said that "the price of American support isn't worth abandoning isolated communities with four times the number of residents of Gush Katif to enclaves. We're done with Gush Katifs. We will not accept symbolic sovereignty."
As part of the struggle over the sovereignty map these days, Dagan issued a "draft notice" to settlers and friends of the Land of Israel: "Now is the time to sign up."
