The American Ambassador's home, located at 40 Gali Techelet Street in Herzliya Pituach is for sale. For those interested, Globes has learned that the embassy is asking for no less than NIS 300 million. The lot is on a street considered one of the most expensive in Israel, and even more prestigious. It is a 1,000-square-meter building on a five-acre lot. The home covers three acres in the eastern part of the lot, with the rest of the area facing the beach.
It is not a new structure; The house was built in the 1960s, and officials told Globes they assume purchasers will probably prefer to demolish it and build another in its place, due to its age and internal condition. According to the building registry, the property has been registered in the name of the United States Secretary of State, namely the United States Government, since 1962.
Globes recently revealed that Russian businessman Roman Abramovich paid NIS 226 million for the most expensive home in Israel, which is also in Herzliya Pituach. The price tag for the property sounds fanciful, but real estate agents argue that given that it is on Galei Techelet Street, as well as being the relevant type of property, there is almost no limit to the price. The reason is the location, the size of the property, and also the fact that it reaches almost to the beach.
The U.S. embassy confirmed that the house was for sale and said that "following discussions on the transfer of the embassy to Jerusalem, it was decided to sell the property in Herzliya. Many of the Embassy's activities were relocated to Jerusalem and the Ambassador established a formal residence in the area. We expect the sale of the property to take place in the coming months."
