Israel's Health Ministry on Thursday evening reported that the number of active coronavirus cases has reached 6,084.

A full 668 patients were diagnosed with coronavirus since Wednesday, the report said.

A total of 47 patients are currently hospitalized, with 29 of them on ventilators. So far, 309 Israelis have died of coronavirus, while 16,007 have made a recovery.

Due to the rise in coronavirus cases in his city, Bat Yam's mayor, Tzvika Brot, formulated a plan under which new measures would be implemented to stem the spread of coronavirus while still allowing residents to maintain their daily routines as much as possible.

The Israeli government is expected to approve the plan by Friday.

Among other things, the beach will be closed between the hours of 10:00a.m. and 5:00p.m., and gatherings of more than ten people will be forbidden, including in synagogues. Public prayers will be allowed to be held with up to 20 participants, and in open areas.

In addition, grades 5-6 will no longer attend school, and in haredi schools only grades 1-4 will operate. The school year officially ends on June 30.
