Samaria Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan on Wednesday sent a clear message to Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, ahead of the White House meeting regarding the application of Israeli sovereignty to Judea and Samaria.
Dagan expressed concern that if Israel fails to act on the opportunity to apply sovereignty, or does so in a partial fashion which leaves 19 Jewish towns isolated enclaves, the nationalist bloc will break apart.
Some of the 19 towns also include historic and holy sites, such as Rachel's Tomb and the Cave of the Patriarchs, which will not be included in sovereignty.
"We are living in historic times, when leaders like Prime Minister Netanyahu need to make historic decisions," Dagan said. "I am concerned with a farce, with symbolic sovereignty, or worse - of a sovereignty map which creates a regression that removes 19 towns with over 20,000 residents - four times more than lived in Gush Katif - and essentially creates a second Disengagement."
"We have an agreement with Netanyahu. I expect Netanyahu to preserve that agreement," he emphasized.
Dagan added, "I will say that I am concerned that the only thing that could break the nationalist bloc apart right now is a dissolution of the sovereignty, Israbluff sovereignty - or turning the process into one that leaves 19 isolated towns. I, as a nationalist and as a supporter of Netanyahu, am concerned that missing out on sovereignty will lead to the breakdown of the nationalist camp and to a loss of control of the government."
"I am a Likudnik and I believe in our rights to the Land of Israel. I'm not embarrassed of that, I'm proud of it and it's my life's work. The Likud is the construction of Israel. The nationalist camp is true sovereignty.
"We have an agreement with Netanyahu. I expect him to preserve that agreement. Sovereignty is an amazing thing. I have been working for seven years to bring the topic of sovereignty [to the table], together with additional people. They said it was insane. And here we are. Prime Minister, be strong and brave - for sovereignty. And at the same time, I demand he stand strong and fix the dangerous map."
