Housing Minister Natan Sharansky has won a libel suit against an author who claimed he was a KGB agent. Yuli Nudelman wrote a book in which he claimed that Sharansky was an agent for the KGB and other intelligence agencies, was connected to the Russian mafia, and informed on other Jews while he was in Soviet prison. Jerusalem District Court Justice Tzvi Segal ruled that sufficient evidence had not been presented to back up these claims, and therefore the statements represent libel that is abusive of Sharansky and the party he heads, Yisrael B'Aliyah. The amount of compensation will be decided upon at a later date.
