A crisis in relations between Hamas, on the one hand, and Hezbollah and Iran, on the other, emerged in recent days, after a member of the office of a senior Hamas member was found to be an Iranian intelligence agent.
According to a report in Channel 12, Hamas discovered that at least one worker in the office of Musa Abu Marzouk, considered a central figure in the foreign affairs of Hamas, was actually an Iranian agent, apparently enlisted via Hezbollah.
The agent would report back on every conversation with Abu Marzouk and every movement the official made, according to the report.
Following the discovery, Abu Marzouk, known to be unenthusiastic about Hamas’ tightening cooperation with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, reportedly complained of the matter to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and asked for his intervention. Haniyeh brought up the matter with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
As a result, the worker in Abu Marzouk’s office was forced to leave Hamas and moved to Sudan. Abu Marzouk, for his part, is currently staying in Qatar.
