Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton slammed President Trump's handling of the ongoing riots in the US in an interview with the Los Angeles Times on Saturday. She said that while Trump had shown empathy in the wake of George Floyd's death at the hands of a Minnesota police officer, the President had proceeded to take advantage of the crisis to "divert attention" and refocus it on his re-election campaign.
A day before the interview was published, Clinton released a blog post for Medium, claiming that while whites felt discomfort when accused of "white privilege," their awareness of "systematic racism" in American society was a good thing and would allow them to correct the errors of their behavior. "For many white people, conversations about systemic racism and our own privilege are uncomfortable…" she wrote.
Fox News reported that many Bernie Sanders supporters as well as Trump fans expressed their dismay with Clinton using her political clout to pander to an already-supportive audience, taking the opportunity to attack Trump in support of Democratic Party presumptive presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden who, for his part, has made a number of appearances from his home, calling for Americans to revolt against "police brutality" and hold the administration accountable for perceived injustices to minority members.
On June 4, it was reported that George Floyd, the 46-year-old Minneapolis man killed while being arrested by police had several kinds of narcotics in his system at the time of his death. He was also suffering from the coronavirus.
The autopsy’s toxicology report also found that Floyd was also on opioid fentanyl, a powerful painkiller, as well as methamphetamines – a powerful and addictive drug also known as crystal meth – as well as cannabis.
While Floyd was suffering from heart disease, hypertension, and was a carrier for the sickle cell trait, neither Floyd’s pre-existing health conditions nor the drugs found in his system were listed as causes of death.
Chauvin and three other officers involved in the incident have been fired from the police department and arrested. Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder, while the other three officers who took part in the arrest have been charged with aiding and abetting the crime.
