A total of six new cases of coronavirus were registered in Palestinian Authority-assigned areas of Judea and Samaria and Gaza on Wednesday, the PA “health minister Mai al-Kaila said, according to the Xinhua news agency.

"Five new cases were recorded in the Gaza Strip and one case was recorded in the West Bank today," said al-Kaila.

She added that the number of Palestinian Arabs infected with the deadly virus has risen to 636.

So far, five patients have died and 531 recovered. Over 58,000 Palestinians are in quarantine.

Both the Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria and Hamas authorities in Gaza recently eased most of the precautionary measures against coronavirus.

Mosques, churches, restaurants, hotels, cafes, wedding halls, and public parks and gardens were opened after a complete lockdown for around three months.

However, PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas earlier on Wednesday issued a decree that extends the status of emergency in Judea and Samaria for another month.

Abbas initially announced a month-long state of emergency in March, after the first seven cases of coronavirus were identified in Bethlehem. He extended the state of emergency in early May.

According to the official PA news agency Wafa, the decree on the state of emergency will be in effect from June 4 to July 4.
