Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sunday spoke about the clause in the Likud-Blue and White coalition agreement that states that Netanyahu will receive an official residence while serving as the Alternate Prime Minister, starting November 17, 2021.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu told ministers, "All those who are misleading and saying that a residence for the Alternate Prime Minister is being built - that is not true, such a proposal has not come up and will not come up."
An official at the Prime Minister's Office explained to Channel 12 News, "No alternative residence will be set up at the end of Netanyahu's term. He will make his home in Caesarea or his private home on Gaza Street in Jerusalem his official residence." This is similar to what Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz has done with his private home in Rosh HaAyin.
As for the costs involved, turning one of the homes into an official residence can include renovations and adjustments - so the large amount of money needed to build a new home may be saved, but a budget will be required for work at the home to be chosen. Another political official commented on the issue and said, “First let the rotation be implemented, then we will talk about residences.”
Meanwhile, Alternate Prime Minister and Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Sunday evening held a first working meeting with Attorney General Dr. Avichai Mandelblit. The two discussed the various issues relevant to the Ministry of Defense and the government.
Gantz told Mandelblit that he views the rule of law and law enforcement officials as key elements in maintaining democracy and added he intends to protect, strengthen them and ensure that they can carry out their mission without fear.
