A 90-year-old Holocaust survivor was found dead in Sderot Saturday night. Her body was found in her home at about 9 PM, when a report was received at the ZAKA hotline about a woman found dead on Nitzan Street in the city.

ZAKA Sderot commander Avichai Amosi said: "She was a Holocuast survivor in her 90s who was found without signs of life. It appears that she slipped and fell and lay alone in her home with no one to hear her cries."

"Neighbors told us that the woman usually feeds and cares for cats and because they did not see her from Friday on, they feared for her life and called the police and fire department who broke into the apartment and found her lifeless. ZAKA Sderot volunteers treated the dead woman with respect. The body of the deceased was transferred to the Abu Kabir Institute for further examination and identification."

On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the body of Magda Greif, 87, was found in her apartment in Be'ersheva after she apparently passed away on the day before the last day of Passover.

A ZAKA volunteer who was in the apartment caring for Greif's body found a letter next to her, a will that had hung on the wall, in which she wrote, among other things: "I have no family in Israel and abroad. The cause of death is not criminal. I am very ill." Greif signed the letter with one request: "Save the birds in the cages."
