At least 210 people have died from coronavirus in Iran - several times higher than the official numbers, sources in the country's health system have told BBC Persian.
Most of the victims are from the capital, Tehran, and the city of Qom, where cases of Covid-19 first emerged, the source said.
According to Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour, the country has 593 confirmed cases, and on Saturday saw its 43rd death. The country has also said it plans to test "tens of thousands" for the virus.
Several Iranian officials have already caught the virus, including the country's deputy health minister, and a deputy of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo offered Iran aid in managing the coronavirus.
"I’m deeply concerned by the spread of coronavirus in Iran and the public health risk to the Iranian people and their neighbors. The U.S. offers our humanitarian assistance to the people of Iran to help unmet needs in their response efforts," Pompeo tweeted Friday.
Also on Friday, the World Health Organization raised the global risk of COVID-19 to "very high" - its top level of assessment.
Since Friday, coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Mexico, Estonia, Nigeria, Denmark, Holland, and Lithuania.
