Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau would like the entire public - hareidi, religious-Zionist, and secular - to unite around the memorial siren for Israel\'s fallen soldiers. It will be sounded for one minute tomorrow night, at the onset of Memorial Day for Israel\'s Fallen Soldiers, and again for two minutes on Wednesday morning. \"Though the siren is not anchored in Jewish customs of mourning and remembrance,\" Rabbi Lau writes today, \"we should not ignore it or negate it. The delicate uniform fabric into which the various parts of our society are woven obligates us to be most respectful of others and considerate of their feelings.\"
A joint memorial ceremony for hareidi and secular Jews will be held tomorrow night, Memorial Day eve. First held last year, it will take place in Jerusalem, and feature Likud Minister Ruby Rivlin, Deputy Minister Rabbi Michael Melchior (Labor), and MK Ya\'ir Peretz (Shas).
