The IDF, acting today on General Security Service-supplied intelligence, uncovered a major explosives laboratory in the PA's Legislative Council building in Jenin. An Israeli-Arab from Jaffa, accused of driving two suicide terrorists to their double attack in Tel Aviv two weeks ago, has been arrested. The two originally wanted to blow themselves up in very crowded areas, but could not find any - as it was the fast of Tisha B'Av, and public eateries and places of entertainment were closed. The terrorists then directed the driver - who says their threats to blow up in the car intimidated him from calling the police - to drive towards the area of the old central bus station. The terrorists detonated themselves there, amidst a crowd of foreign workers and others; five people were killed in the blast, including two workers from China and one from Romania.
GSS Director Avi Dichter told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee yesterday that his agency has intelligence information on at least 60 Arab terrorist attacks currently in the works. He added that the GSS has thwarted 12 attacks this week alone. As if on cue, security officials last night arrested a female would-be suicide bomber and an accomplice in the Ramallah district. Dichter also expressed support for the government’s security fence, which will divide Israeli cities from PLO-controlled areas.
