Israel is in the midst of its second major Sharav (heat wave) of the summer season. The nation’s firefighters remain on standby due to the unseasonable hot and dry conditions. In addition the Jewish National Fund (JNF), the group responsible for dealing with forests fires, is operating on high alert. The high temperature for Jerusalem today is 36 degrees Celsius (97 Fahrenheit); Eilat will hit 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit), and the temperature at Dead Sea will max out at 48 degrees Celsius (118 Fahrenheit). Forecasters say that temperatures will begin to let up on Thursday.
