The International Coalition for Missing Israeli Soldiers (ICMIS) has announced a campaign to help secure the release of eight Israelis believed to be imprisoned by Hizbullah. On October 7th, 2000, Hizbullah terrorists, in a blatant violation of international law, crossed the Lebanese border into Israel and kidnapped three Israeli soldiers: Adi Avitan, Binyamin Avraham, and Omer Souad. Several days later, Hizbullah announced that another Israeli citizen, Elchanan Tannenbaum, had also been taken captive. In addition, four other Israeli soldiers were also captured in Lebanon: Zachary Baumel, Yehuda Katz, and Tzvi Feldman in 1982, and Ron Arad in 1986. The ICMIS believes that the intervention of the international community is desperately needed, and is aiming to gather at least 1,000,000 signatures via an internet petition. The petition can be signed here.
