(Updated Sunday 9:30 AM) The four victims from Friday’s pre-Shabbat terrorist shootings will be laid to rest today. 20-year-old IDF Sergeant Elazar Leibovitz, will be laid to rest at noon in Hevron’s Jewish Cemetery. He is survived by his parents and nine siblings. The funeral service for Rabbi Yosef Yitzhak Dickstein, 44, his wife Chana, 42, and their son Shuva\'el Tzion, 9, will begin at 12:30 PM at Jerusalem\'s Mercaz HaRav Kook Yeshiva, in the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood. The three family members will be buried in the cemetery of the Shomron community of Psagot later in the day. The Dicksteins had moved to Psagot just eight months ago. Two other Dickstein children suffered light to moderate wounds in the incident.
At around 6 PM on Friday evening, Arab terrorists opened fired on Sergeant Leibovitz’s car traveling near the Zeif Junction, in the Hevron district. After Leibovitz was hit by bullets, another passenger in the car grabbed the wheel and continued towards Hevron to seek assistance. On their way to get help, the occupants of the car spotted the Dickstein vehicle heading towards the Zeif Junction and tried to signal to them to stop in order to avoid the terrorists. Unfortunately, the passengers in the Dickstein car failed to pick up on the warning and continued towards the junction where they came under fire from close range.
Rabbi Dickstein, Chana, and Shuva’el Tzion died on the scene. They are survived by nine orphaned Dickstein children. Leibovitz, who was to have celebrated his 21st birthday on Saturday, succumbed to his wounds after he was transported to a nearby hospital. The Arabs who carried out the attacks fled to the nearby PLO-controlled village of Yatah. An IDF manhunt for the terrorists is still underway.
The al-Aqsa Brigade of Yasser Arafat’s Fatah terror gang has claimed responsibility for the shootings. In response the Yesha (Judea, Samaria, and Gaza) Council is calling on the government to expel the residents of Yatah and destroy the village as an example to the Arabs that their reign of terror will no longer be tolerated.
